Carl Fontaine - Biography
| Carl Fontaine is a half
Cree, half Ojibway Indian from Sagkeeng First Nations near Pine Falls,
Manitoba. He uses his real name for his serious artwork and often paints
under the name John Tookonabear for his spiritual artwork.
He has been commisioned to do many projects for local businesses and associations including Harvey's, KFC, The Manitoba Museum of Man and Nature and has even done some background design for Walt Disney Studios. In 1991 he was awarded first place for his entry entitled "The Great Chief Poundmaker" from Peace Hills Trust and the painting was featured on their 1992 calender. Carl specializes in painting "people pictures", painting through the eyes into the soul of his subjects. |
