| Lydia proves that feathers and ink
mix well. She grew up in Nanchez, Mississippi along the banks of the Mississippi
River where she began her studies of art, birds and nature. She earned
her Bachelor of Arts Degree from Mississippi State University in 1976.
After several years of extensive travelling and continued studies, Lydia
settled on St. Simons Island, Georgia.
"In 1983," she says, "I decided to quit a safe job and go on the road to pursue my dream of combining a love for art with the study of birds. That first year I traveled 38,000 miles and listed 555 species of birds." "With that as a start, I've been working ever since, using etching as my principal medium. I suppliment the drawing done in the field with photographs and video camera. I find that the video is like drawing from life but the bird holds still longer." Lydia has earned the title of "Master Printer" through her years of dedicated work. She also works with other artists who wish to expand their art experience. |
