Princess Do May Gallery

Born Doe May Davison, daughter of an Irish father and a Cherokee mother, she ran away from her Tulsa home at the age of fourteen to work in the burlesque theatres of Dayton, Ohio. She billed herself as "The Cherokee Half Breed" or "Princess Do May" and with her 38-24 35 figure won a highly enthusiastic following from coast to coast. Doing a dance routine which became known as the Cherokee Strip, Do May incorporated  an Indian motif in everything that she did. Starting her dance wearing a full eagle feathered Indian head-dress and doing traditional Indian steps, she slowly discarded the feathers as she danced in front of a totem pole, winding up wearing a modern day G-string and bra.
